Most
of the dolls I make are adaptations of patterns I've picked
up from numerous places over time. I'm always happy to
share where the pattern came from. |

Children's
Dolls
Rag Dolls,
Dolls with wardrobes, story book doll sets make great gifts for that
special child play. All of my rag dolls are made with quality materials.
For very little children, I embroider
the facial features for safety. For older children, I use a variety
of options
for creating features. If you have a specific person or use
in mind, let me know and I can share additional ideas of dolls that
I may
be wanting to make but not have an excuse to do so yet.
For
rag dolls and dolls meant to be played with, I'll charge between $55-$105
for a finished doll. If you want additional clothing for the
doll, I'll charge $5-$15 per item (or outfit). If you want a doll set
(maybe a set of story-book characters) let me know what you are thinking
of
and I'll let you know what it would cost to do.
Sculptured
Dolls and Display Dolls:
Do you have a friend in to playing cards? I can create a Joker as
a good luck gift. Do you want a custom angel doll, fairy, or something
uniquely yours? If you have someone you’d like a custom display
character doll for, let me know what you are thinking and I’ll
be happy to make some suggestions.
I charge $65-$120
depending on the complexity of the doll and the types of materials
involved.
How to Order
My doll making service is very personal and custom so I don't
have an order form for it. Normally, people send me an email telling
me what they are looking to have done and I email back what I can
do and what it will cost. If you have questions or want an
estimate, you can contact me to
discuss the kind of doll you want and to make a reservation.

Reservations
are needed because I make these in my evenings and weekends.
This is a labor of love and I simply don't charge enough to be
able to do it as a full time profession. For
some reason, AOL doesn't always allow my emails through. If you
have emailed me and don't receive a response within 24 hours,
it means I either didn't get your email, or my response did not
make it to you. You can also call me at 937-235-5050 this
is my work number, but feel free to leave a message if I'm not
there. |
Examples of Recent Projects
Another Befana
Alessandra saw my Old Befan doll and wanted me to make her one. She
wanted green eyes and darker hair. I also used a different fabric
to get a darker skin tone. This doll has bloomers and wears sox
and boots as well as her dress and over apron. She carries a sack
of toys and a broom made from wood and pine needles from the back
yard. Her hands are wired so that she can hold the broom. |
A Doll in His Likeness
Stephen and his girlfriend were going to be going
to different colleges which means they will not be together. He
wanted a doll in his likeness to give to her while they are apart. He
sent me a picture to work with and this is my inerpretation from
that picture. I
kept the doll's legs floppy and unstuffed so that it can sit on
a shelf or desk. I put wires in his hands so that they can be posed
a bit (possibly even hold a little gift).

Old Befana
Jana wanted a doll that represented a story that was a part of
her family's Christmas tradition. La Befana is an italian story
of an old woman who met the Magi when they were on their way to
meet the Christ child. Because she is intent on sweeping her house,
she is late in joining the trip to see the baby and misses him.
She searches to this day, leaving gifts for children on the Feast
of the Three Kings. There is a children's book by
Tomie dePaola
that tells the story.
Most of the few depictions of La Befana make her mean-looking
and very witchy. Jana wanted more of a grandmotherly figure. I
combined a couple of patterns I had and made adjustments so that
she has wired hands (to hold her broom). She wears bloomers, socks
and boots as well. The broom was made from items in my back yard. She
also carries a sack of toys. Her hair is made of real grey fox.

Hi Liane!
I opened the box for my La Befana doll and
was soooooo happy! She
is more beautiful than the pics. I put her out on a special
shelf, along with the book. I can't thank you enough for
creating such a perfect La Befana doll for my family.
Buon Natale/Merry Christmas! Jana |
A Girlfriend's Memories

Richard contacted me to have me make a doll to replace one
that his girlfriend used to own--that her parents had inadvertantly
lost. Unfortunately, all he had to go on was his memory of what the
doll looked like. He sent me a digital sketch. As you can see, I
worked on several prototypes in an effort to get just the right expression. Not having
a picture of the original doll made it difficult, but it was an
interesting project.
Hey Liane,
Just letting you know I got the dolls in the mail. They look great! |
Alice
and the Tea Party
Alice and her pals were a set made for a charity auction. The
pattern for this set is from an old Woman's Day book from
the 1970s. I
made Alice, the Mad Hatter and the Hare and paired it all up with
a table and chairs, a small china set and napkins (complete with
rings) a centerpiece for the table and a table cloth. |
Duck Bear
A local charity has a Duck Regatta as a fundraiser. People
purchase a rubber duck with a number on it. All of the
ducks are then dumped into the river up stream and herded down
stream where they are pulled out of the water after they go past
the finish line. The
first ducks to cross the finish line receive prizes. Ahead of the
actual event, there is a charity dinner with a silent auction. As
one of the items for the silent auction, I made a bear wearing
a duck costume and holding a rubber duck wearing a bear costume. |
