Gifts That Tie Generations Together

Furry Friendship Bears

friendship-b02I frequently have people ask about a lower priced fur bear option.  They are just looking for an option that allows each family member to have a little keepsake of the original garment.  So, I’m thinking about adding my “Friendship Bear” option but am very conflicted about it.

I prefer to make the jointed bears from fur because they are a higher quality final product that should last a lifetime if taken care of.  However, they are time consuming and the price I have to charge reflects that.

I created a little pattern for about a 10″ non-jointed bear many years ago.  I call it my “Friendship Bear”.  It is much simpler to make than a jointed bear so I could bring it down to a price point of $65-$75.  However, it doesn’t convey near the quality that my jointed bears do and I don’t want to dilute my brand.  Any thoughts?

When we had finished making a number of heirloom gifts from Katrina Sotomayor's wedding dress, there were still some remnants. She asked us to use the remainder of the remnants to make several more gift items. These photos are of the two ring pillows and three jewelry pouches we made from the remnants along with a photo montage of the original gift items we made.

Linda Walsh sent her wedding dress to have a christening outfit made for her soon-to-be-here grandchild and future grandchildren. Her dress was made of a lovely, quality satin with lace. She sent me this note when she received the outfit:

"Liane the Christening Gown arrived. It is so beautiful! My mom, mother-in-law, and I all had tears in our eyes. My mom said it's as beautiful as the Royal Family's Christening gown 😊. I am so excited to give this to my daughter! God bless you and thank you for making our past part of our family' future." Linda

Karen Pierce sent us a rabbit fur coat with the following note:

"The fur was my dads (I believe it was his grandmothers). My dad passed in April 2017 and I'm making the bear for my sister. She does not know the bar is coming--it's a surprise."

We hope that her sister was pleasantly surpised.

Caitlin Tomassi sent her wedding dress to have a christening dress made for her daughter. Her dress had lots of lace so we took advantage of it to make a full, lacy skirt and lacy sleeves. We also used the crystal beaded piece by reducing it and putting it on the waist. A shout out to my assistants Cassie for her work on the gown and Martha for a lovely bonnet. A job well done. :)
